First the AC compressor, now the starter...
I picked up my truck up at my local ford dealer yesterday after having the compressor replaced. The clutch failed, and the compressor was leaking so I elected to replace both.
Today the starter quit. Had a sluggish start leaving work, next start was really sluggish, then nothing but click, click. I got the starter out, and the starter motor won't spin using jumper cables from the battery. Solenoid checks OK.
Advance Auto offers Driveworks, Carquest Reman, Carquest new, and Bosch Reman. Anyone have experience with any of these lines? Don't want to buy junk, but I don't want to spend more than necessary either.
Any idea what a starter runs at the ford parts counter?
Thanks,
Adam

All offer limited lifetime warantees...
I went with the carquest reman, I was out the door for $119 with a 20% off online code.
The top bolt is a bugger to get to, but now that I know where it is it wasn't too bad to get it back in.

I'll keep that in mind.
I have a trusted friend who is a tech at the local Ford dealer, so real mechanic work goes to him. I am a decent parts changer. I'll look at it and see if I think I can do a repair, if not it goes to him.

I had to replace mine 3 times last year needless to say don't cheap out on the starter or chances are you're going to do it again. First time I did it it took maybe an hour to and hour & 1/2 mostly spent figuring out the correct combinations of extensions and elbows. The next two times took maybe 30 minutes start to finish because I knew exactly what I needed. I really don't recommend anything besides motorcraft at this point. Not a hard job but not one that you want to repeat.

I changed mine not too long ago and I went with a Duralast from Autozone. It was about $120 with lifetime warranty and a $15 core refund. I also struggled with the top bolt of the starter for a while only to find out it was removed by the previous owner haha
