Unhappy Failed Cam Lobe

I had the cam lobe on the first cylinder on the passenger side fail and it took the cam follower with it and spread steel metal flakes throughout the engine. The oil was full of shinny metal floating in it and the cam bearing caps (aluminum) were scored.

This is on the a 5.4 Triton engine in a 2004 Fi50. Has anyone had a similar problem or aware of a chronic problem with this type of failure of a hardened cam lobe? Is there any program with Ford for relief of some of the engine replacement cost?

Its not a very commom problem and unfortunatly ford doesn't offer any help. If the damage isn't to bad I would just rplace the cam and any other damged parts. A whole lot chaper if the engine is savable. Good luck!

If you have metal bits in your oil god only knows how much is trapped in the oil passages, my opinion, is new motor.
