Question Factory Nav unit or Aftermarket?

Hey guys,
In my 07 Lariat SCrew, I have the Audiophile system, 6CD, Sirius, Sub, ya'll get the picture. I said I wasn't gonna upgrade the head unit, yet I find myself wondering. My dealership can get the factory head unit that will work with everything I have, even my aftermarket camera, I think, for $2100.

My question is does anyone think that is worth it, or should I go with a JVC-NT500HDT or NT700, from a local store, let them install it, with all the adapters, and run my camera to it? For probably about the same price all said and done.

Has anyone installed the aftermarket stuff, can you still use steering wheel controls, does the sub work, did you have any problems with the seirius radio? Or would it be worth the $$$ to get a factory nav unit and the peice of mind that it will all work, and just find a way to get my camera wired in.

I dont know a factory nav unit from 04-08 that would be able to accomodate the camera function. My unit on my 06 FX4 is out of an 08 Edge and i have sirius, aux, cd, fm, and am capabilities (touch buttons). I have a sub and amp wired into mine (aftermarket). i also just wired a mp3 input into the system.
You should be able to get a ford factory unit for WAY less than 2100. I have seen them on ebay for 600 bucks. I know that doesnt include the install and all but it might be cheaper to buy it then have it installed. Then you might have to get it flashed at the dealer but thats pretty inexpensive. However thats not the point of your question, so i would say that if a camera is pretty important to you then go aftermarket. The aftermarket one will also give you more power to play with going to your speakers.

The JVC NT500 you're looking at is $900 on Crutchfield and comes with everything you need, except the steering wheel control interface:

Steering wheel control is another $40:

As far as I know, no factory unit will work with an aftermarket camera. So the dealership quote of $2100 might include the factory camera. Or they might just be trying to screw you.

The audio shop you talked to that wants $1k+ for the adapters and install is definitely trying to screw you.

Edit: You might need another adapter for the Sirius. Still, that should be less than $100 ($30 after rebate on Crutchfield):

Check out pioneer's navigation systems. They really nice and you can get it for about $800 from Amazon.com. My brother put one in his F250 with the back up camera. Something to look into.

Geaux Tigers!!

I had a hunch the dealership was a screw over. The $1k + for the local place is a $999 HU, adapters and install, probably $1600 all said and done.

I really like the JVC units. I want Bluetooth, ability to hook up to my camera, sirius, and the ability to use my steering wheel controls, and the front aux input. The JVC units had all this. Might be a crutch field order after all, atleast they have everything I need. Been awhile since I messed with a radio. I enjoy doing it.

Next question, anyone have problems with the factory sub and an aftermarket HU? Read on crutch field they cut off and on.

Check other places other than crutchfield...They have been known to not be the cheapest. Excellent place for info and comparing though.

Has anyone had problems with the factory sub and an aftermarket HU cutting out?

Will definitely check other places as well.
