F-150 Transmission or Motor Problem???
Hello Guys!!!!!, I have a question I hope you guys can help me. I have a 2006 F-150 King Ranch 4x4 5.4L 170K miles. I notice today while driving around I went to accelerate and I felt I "shudder" or could not be classified by as a "slip". I have kept the transmission and motor sercived but have been about 50 - 60 k since my last transmission service. I dont know if this is my motor skipping or missing or my transmission is shuddering and partially slipping. Also on my motor I have a K&N cold air intake and notice that for the last 4 years of ownership they did not install the gasket on my mass air flow sensor so there is a possibility my injectors and intakes may be very dirty not sure 100% if that is so. But any comment and suggestions would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks!
Thanks!

shudder
We have the same issue on our 05 King Ranch 5.4. 143,000. I initially thought it was the transmission, not deciding if it wanted 3rd or 4th gear but I also get a CEL saying misfire on #6 cylinder.
So, first job is change them soon and see what happens....Im hoping its plugs, rather than the transmission, but the shudder is certainly not going to help anything else on the truck......

Yikes! You're going to get you a whole bunch of "my truck did the same thing, and I replaced...." with this type of trouble you describe. Extreemly difficulte to pipoint this one down over the internet unfortunatley.
If you have no codes, you've owned it for awhile, and have done routine maintenance, then the best bet is to get it checked by an expert.
Or toss half a dozon parts and repairs at it based on what could be causing it; sooner or later you'll locate the problem.

codes
I have a generic code reader that I can plug into the OBDII connector but unless the CEL is on, it doesn't detect any codes? Is there a better way to diagnose the ECU and find what has been stored?
If its on the forum, point me in the right direction please!
Thanks

actually it doesnt matter if your using the $10k the mechanics use or the $120 one from autozone, if there is no light or O/D light flashing it wont see it! but yeah i have no clue wtf is up with mine now, i started it up to go to work then to ford since it is on the way to ford and my trans never did anything out of normal? i have no clue... called ford and they said it is pointless to bring it in unless there is a light on... unless i just want to spend the 100 bucks on the extended warrenty for them to "look" at it so i said ohh well. they said drive it till the light comes on or it wont move anymore!
