Default Extra plastic on Stock Intake

I have a 2008 5.4 and I was talking about getting a CAI for it and when my cousin and I were looking at it we couldnt figure out why ford would put so much extra plastic on the thing. Does anybody know? I dont know if the 4.6 is the same way, but the 5.4 has like lungs or something extruding from the main intake tube. Why all the extra plastic?

We figured Ford had to have a reason for it, and it has actually made me a little hesitant to get a CAI. What is all that extra crap for? Any one know?

I thought the same thing.

I replaced it anyways, but I still have all of the stock parts and screws just in case

Default Intake

I believe that the extra intake stuff is for silencing the air... so you DON'T get the carb sucking sound most of us like... that way the truck suits the quite lovers.

It's for "silencing", makes it quieter. I thought we all liked to hear those sounds, but I guess some people dont! They don't affect performance one way or the other so nothing to worry about.

not to jump on anyone...BUT this is a completely ignorant statement. The resinators cause turbulance, effecting air flow. Therefore robbing airflow to the engine. if they didn't cause or effect performance then all aftermarket intakes would be designed the same way. anytime there is restriction it will effect performance. i.e. stock exhausts are restritive, therefore aftermarket exhaust diameters are larger with free flowings cats, and so on. My point is the stock intake and exhaust is restrictive, when changing to aftermarket you loose the restrictions therfore gaining hp and torque.

I wonder if you could cut the warts of the intake tube and cover the holes?

I added a CIA to my 2007 King Ranch. No HP increase and no fuel mileage increase. Don't waste your money. Its louder and thats it. Gives you thr impression that you have more power........not. Put a flow through filter in your stock system........my recommendation

i have a 05 4.6 and there the intake has all the "quieting features" especially into the side panel and i said this is retarded and ripped it off now it runs MUCH MUCH nicer

who knew high idle could be caused from lack of air (sarcasm)

Hmm... nice being called ignorant by someone who can't spell correctly. So... since my reply, which was in broad generalization, which did not insist that he would gain or lose HP by altering these resonators, which was basically a general reply stating that he has nothing to worry about by getting rid of them or installing a CAI, a simple answer to a simple question.... did not sit well with you, what makes you an airflow expert? Next time, try saying that you don't agree with my statement, and not saying that I'm ignorant........
