Default Exhaust too loud in the cab

So when the (terrible) shop put my muffler on, they only mounted it where it would be legal for VA... right under the cab with the outlet just barely sticking out behind the back of the cab. As a result, it's LOUD and actually very annoying. Had I anticipated that I would've never left the shop and told them to do it right and move it back to where the stock muffler was. Now what would you guys do? Move the whole muffler back to the original spot (where the OEM muffler was) or leave it where it is and just put a pipe out to the back?

I would just put a pipe out the back. That should quiet it down quite a bit.

If I were you I'd go back up to the shop and make them do it since they are supposed to put it where Ford did. Or just put a pipe out the back unless it will look tacky.

I think it might look tacky, like the original did. I'm okay with it terminating under the truck like the current outlet is, I just want the sound point back further.

Edit: I also don't trust this shop to even put windshield washer fluid in. I got the truck back after I got my headers put on and slowly noticed a lot of problems that were not there when I gave it to them. It's so bad I don't even trust them enough to go back and have them fix it.

Hope so. It is a dual-out muffler, so I'll either need two pipes or a single short Y pipe going into one. The original idea was to have a pipe exiting each side of the truck, but I decided against that so the muffler just stops where it's built.

I suppose I could have a different shop pull it off, extend the single-in pipe back to the original OEM muffler spot, then put the muffler back on there and leave it as is with no pipes going out of it. I like the sound without the look of the pipe sticking out.

Run it at least to the arae between the rear axle and spare. I had my duals dumped in front of the rear axle and it was loud as heck. I then ran flexible tubing up over the axle and exiting near the spare and it is perfect. I can snap pics this evening.

I'd greatly appreciate that, if it wouldn't be too much trouble. I considered flexible tubing and just doing that myself but that seems like a bad option considering it'd have to go five feet or so. I don't know how I'd mount something like that.

Not the prettiest but you get the idea. I had it dumped in front of the axle, waaaayy to loud at cruising speed. This is just right and I mainly like this because I hate exhaust pipes and tips out the sides or even one side of a truck.

That's actually a great idea I hadn't considered. Does the heat affect the tire at all or cause any kind of exhaust soot buildup?

Nope and nope. I had the wrong size pipe on there for over a year, ran exactly the same way and never and issue with heat on the tire or soot build up. The reason its new now is because I finally had time to take off the 3" pipe and put on the 2 1/4" pipe, it never would seal against the mufflers with the 3". I am more than happy with it like this, almost not noticeable at cruising but sounds great when the right foot goes down.
