Default Exhaust question

I went to the muffler shop today to get a quote for dual exhaust. First - they guy says I should only use 1 muffler with the dual pipes and not 2 mufflers. He says this because of the converter. I've always had regular dual exhaust on my trucks. Your thoughts?

Second - I talked with the shop about the flowmaster 50 and he said I should use the flowmaster 40 because the 50 is so quiet. Then he suggested a VX muffler equivalent to the flowmaster 40. Thoughts?

I cut off my stock muffler and welded a flow master 40 series in its place on mine and its too quiet. Can only hear it inside the cab on hard acceleration. And it's rusting pretty bad. Will be replacing it with a magnaflow exiting before rear tire soon

I originally wanted the flowmaster 50 too, guy at the exhaust shop talked me into going with the super 40. They have been installing flowmaster mufflers for 20 years, and he said half the guys who buy the 50 series end up coming back to get the 40 put on. However he has never had someone come back to get a 50 installed because the 40 is too loud. That helped me make my decision, hope it helps with yours

I have the 5.4 with the MBRP 3" single exit T409 stainless steel system. Beautiful deep tone but it won't make you deaf. If you're not committed to Flowmaster I'd give it a shot
