To me Flowmaster is way overrated, it's a chambered muffler which does not flow well at all and also they don't sound that good. So many other options out there other than flowmaster but it's your truck, put what muffler you want on it.

Do you plan on putting a cat back system on or just replacing the muffler?

Depends on my budget. What are the advantages of a new exhaust?

Sounds way better. Doesn't add much hp and maybe .5 mpg if you stay out of it. Our trucks are relatively heavy. Do it for sound and any other benefit is icing on the cake.

I had Flowmasters on a lot of trucks, they sounded real nice. After talking to the guy who was doing my exhaust, I went with a Cherry Bomb Extreme. It sounds really really good! I would look into it. It's comparable to a 40 series Flow, but has a more "tuned" sound I think.

I just changed mine for a " more manly growl " it took me 20 minutes and cost like $50. Bought a glasspack $27, cut off muffler $0, installed glasspack with 3 clamps 2-2 1/2 & 1-2.1/8 and a universal hanger two adapters and a 90°. Sounds good but not too loud yet much heavier than stock. For a quick and cheap option weld free I'd say this is best imo.

Default Magnaflow

Yea I have to agree with SJP that the magnaflow does not sound like a lawn mower. I have the magnaflow 14" muffler (can't remember the model number) SI/DO with turndowns and I love the way it sounds. Great start up and when you get on it but a crusing you can't really hear it in the cab.

So what sort of buget are you working with? To me there is really no advantage to buying a muffler and having the local exhaust shop put it on or you going out and spending whatever a cat back system cost. If it were me I would pick a muffler and have your local exhaust shop weld it on and then run the tailpipe however you want it.
