Default exhaust

I recently got an 04 ford f150. I WAS a chevy guy.. I like the new truck and my only complaint is it's too quiet. I would like to hear a little rumble when I start the motor or hit the gas. My stock exhaust is in great shape so I'd prefer not to drop it. I was wondering if anyone just removed the stock muffler for an aftermarket like a flowmaster 40, and what results they had. I don't want that snappy pop crackle and snap sound just a mellow deep sound.

Thanks
Mike

If you leave everything and just swap mufflers out most everything will have that growl when you hit it but will stay quiet at idle. Its when you start messing with CATs and manifolds where you get the sound change. Something that may interest you is a new Dynomax with a adjustable tone that changes do to driving. They have great reviews. Otherwise the Flow 40 would be a good cheap alternative. It will be very quiet at idle then have more of a purr at high rpms with the growl in the mid range

I have had a few newer model Screws and on all of them I remove the stock exhaust and replace with a Flow Master 40 and dump it right after the flowmaster. It has a good deep idle and sounds mean when u get on the gas

I suppose I could put on the flowmaster and do a straight down off it? Wouldn't the longer tail pipe give a deeper sound?

I always have my guy put a turn down right after the flowmaster. Gives good deep sound without having a pipe coming out the back. Just my preference

I just checked that out on their site, I would really like to try that. Ive been wanting a differant muffler on my truck but I dont want the drone that you get from most other mufflers. That looks interesting.

On my 4.6 I swapped out the factory muffler with a cherrybomb glasspack. I was afraid it was going to be too loud but its actually pretty quiet. It has a nice rumble at start, a nicer rumble at regular take off, but kinda silences out when I step on it. It'll do for now. I intend to add a cai, shorty headers, TB, and maybe hiflow cats so I'll see how the exhaust note sounds after those mods.

I have been really happy with my Borla XS muffler. I had them dump it 12" after the muffler. It’s not loud at all with no drone. I took it on a 1500 mile road trip two weeks ago and it is barely noticeable you have an aftermarket muffler at highway speed. But it will roar if you get on it hard. Mine was $140 installed at my local muffler shop. If you want a little performance out of your muffler without loud noise or drone, go with Borla. Flowmaster really doesn’t do anything for performance as its not a straight through design. They are just for sound. But I wouldn’t expect any MPG gain out of it.

Default borla xs

My goal was to be able to hear a little rumble in the cab under normal use, and a mild rumble under power. I am interested in the borla xs with the turn down. Also I've heard the flowmaster 40's may be a bit louder, also heard the 50's sound better.
