I would recommend checking your blinker fluid tank to see if it has a crack in it. Check on the bottom right side, by the front most mounting bracket as that is the common spot where it cracks typically. ( If at all )
If it's low, the 5.4 is well known to cause a sound SIMILAR to lifter noise as since the tank is pressurized normally and when it has a hairline crack, the sound of the air escaping can sound just like what you are describing, esp if the crack is longer then one and three quarters inch long.
Worth a shot and would only take 2 mins to check at least....
