Engine sounds at start up
I bought my 04 screw with 58k on it about 2 years ago and everything was great. At about 65k I began to notice that it sounded rough when you started it for 2 or 3 seconds and then smoothed out. I am now at 70k and the noise is worse and lasts for 4 or 5 seconds on start up. I drive a company truck all week so I dont drive it much and the noise is generally on the first startup after it has sat for awhile but has become more frequent as of late. I believe it is an oil presure issue and related to the timeing chain tensioner problems I have read about. Does anybody else have this issue and have they had it resolved? Any input would be great. Thanx
Timing chain tensioners, mine does it too...my ford dealer told me its gonna need attention this year for sure.. but said as long as it goes away after a few seconds its not going to break anything.
ive already bought the new timing chain kit from rock auto and my dads mechanic back home said he would do the work for 65hr as the mechanics around me want 95hr + and the ford dealer is 110hr

If you use the motorcraft filter you'll find that the noise will not be there most of the time. Yes it is the tensioners although I'm convinced they are not always bad and the problem is the filter most of the time. Seems like a rubber valve in the filter doesn't always stop the oil on the tensioners from draining back causing them to lose pressure and causing noise. If you start your truck every couple of days you probably won't here the noise again.
