Default Engine replacement

Have a 2005 f150 5.4 3v and recently got a code cylinder 8 misfire. Checked the basic until a mechanic was able to verify that its losing compression and might be bent valve or piston. My question is anyone replace whole engine or just fix the problem. If bought whole engine anyone bought it before online and whats a good place to do so. Dont want to get rid of my truck so its not an option. Thanks in advance
p.s live south of texas if anyone has a good mechanic that knows his work.

How many miles on it . Condition of truck ? Have you verified lack of compression yourself . Maybe a second opinion .
Labor very expensive . You can get a frazier reman for $3200 . But pulling it and moving over good parts is another question . We seem to pickup your lack of desire to do any of it .Manifold s studs are a problem . Injectors can be bad and ruin a new engine .They run around $350 for a set of new don't use reman .
It will cost at least another 750 - 1000 in fluids and parts depending/hoses /anti freeze pulleys/tensioner /water pump /alternator / .belt/ oil /plugs . A good deal would be around 6k for everything not including bad parts that need to be moved . . Most dealers are going to be at least 7500 .
Extra items can be -intake manifold /exhaust manifolds / throttle body /power steering pump. /injectors. All depends on condition .
guys on here will tell you what to ask for from frazier to spec it out .
Might be worth it to really find your problem with a borescope etc . Head gasket ? look under valve covers condition of cams -amount of sludge . Water in oil , oil in antifreeze . If its over 250k mi it might not be worth much .

Yeah before dropping the big money on a new engine I'd pull the valve cover especially because that driver's side one is the easy one and see if it spit out a rocker arm or something. That could be a e relatively cheap and easy fix. Install new rockers and possibly lash adjusters and be on your way. The rockers can wear and seize up and get spit out.. if your lucky nothing else got damaged at the same time.

Just a heads up, 90% of remanufactured brands are owned by LKQ as the parent company. They have a monopoly on salvage cores. They reman 1000s a month a brand them for the volume shops.

There are some remans that are not under that parent company (powertrain products for ex) but 90% of the market is the same engines with diff names. So when people start saying Fraser, ATK, Surefire, Jasper are better etc...its all off the same floor.
