Default Engine Replacement, 2005 Ford F150, 5.4 3

Has anyone replaced their existing motor with a remanufactured from Ford? I understand they have a 3 year warranty with unlimited miles. I’m getting quotes around $6,400, all in.

that is correct for the warranty, and that quote sounds right on the money for an engine R&R

Thanks! Do you find tear-downs and rebuilds of existing engines with history of lower oil pressure and close to 140k will have long term success?

let's just say i haven't seen a comeback yet for major issues, and we have sold more than a few of those here at the dealership. just make sure if you do go with the new motor you keep after it with maintenance, use only Ford filters and the like

Can most dealers do the R/R of the engine? What is the price of the engine if I wanted to do the work myself?

It seems that most dealerships charge about $6000. You can probably save a couple grand, even after using top-of-the-line components by doing it yourself. Of course many variables can affect this.

How hard is the engine to pull? I figure if a person needed to do both a timing kit, spark plugs and manifolds, they ought to just pull the engine and make life easier. Ain’t no way that’s getting done over a weekend anyway.

Default Before trying to rebuild evaluate valve train and crankshaft end play

If thrust washers bad on crank then there is crank damage , Not recommenced to rebuild at that point . Reman with warranty can be bought for around $3300 so you could do it yourself around 4k . A good timing job complete runs $1400 in oem parts . Head damage can put you over the top. Labor is intensive on this engine .
Dealers run from 6.5k to 10k for ford reman . Shop carefully .
Remember you are moving over a lot of old stuff too. Not wise to move old 100k+ injectors . But reman saves a lot of car payments . And you do get warranty .

I was getting quotes of $4,576 for Ford Reman and $4,698 for Jasper. Ford engine comes with 3 year unlimited mileage and Jasper comes with 3 years 100k warranty. One shop said the Ford engine also comes complete (w plugs, etc) and is ready to install, so less expensive then Jasper and better warranty. I also call two Ford Dealers and they were all within 100 bucks of $4,500 for engine. I assume this price already includes the core discount?

As far as installation, the all in price for parts and labor came in around 6,400-6,700. The dealers said plan on around 7k if you need new headers.

Still trying to decide, as the truck runs well with the exception of the sound effects....and Ford now has the 0% interest rate that keeps gnawing at me.

yes that sounds right after the core is taken off, how bad do you want a new truck?
