I have an 04 supercrew 5.4 with what appears to be an engine ping under moderate acceleration. I have tried running high test with no change. Any ideas. Thanks

 

I bought my truck used and it had a pecking noise as well. I took it to a friend who is a ford mec. and he said it was a cam senser. I took it back to the dealer I bought it from and they repaired it.Im told this is comon in 5.4 motors so check that out. chandlerd.

 

There are several different causes for this sound. One of the current ones is the winterized fuel across the U.S. Currently I am trying to put together some info and get a sticky together for this and some other issues.

Until then try and searching tapping, pinging, and/or knocking to get to some threads with similar issues. I will try and help get this information together but it will take a while.

 

Is your truck ticking ? My truck was ticking and one dealer said it was the fuel injecters, i brought it to a different dealer because it started ping and running rough this dealer said it was the cam phasers, and valve spacers that was 7 days ago it's still in the shop. good thing it was all under warrenty
