Default Engine Died today at Light, Rough Idle

Just bought a new to me '04 F-150 FX4 w/ 127k miles.

I bought it a few states away and it ran fine all the miles back home.

Just today as I was going to lunch, I was a red light and when the light went green the truck died. Oil pressure dropped, power steering died and I got a check engine code. I was lucky enough to be on a decline so I coasted to the side of the road. I turned the truck off and back on.

It started just fine and no check engine light. I happened to have a code reader in my center console and hooked it up and it didn't find anything either.

Made a few more stops and it was fine.

On my way back to work after lunch I was on the interstate, 65 miles per hour, took the ramp to get off, at the next red light while I was stopped at idle, the truck shook and rattled like crazy. It was fairly embarrassing. After that light turned green the truck idled fine from there on out.

I've been scouring the web ever since I got back and so far it looks like a possible Throttle Body cleaning or Crank Position Sensor.

The other thing I guess to note, that the truck came with a tuner with 3 different settings. 87/91/93 gas. I have it on the 87 setting and last fill-up was with 88 gas. I'm thinking of changing the tune back to factory settings.

I had the same issue and it was the fuel pump driver module. It's located under your spare tire. 2 8mm bolts and it's out.

For $58 bucks on Amazon I'll replace it Thanks! But I think this would be for the shutting down, not really for the violent shaking at the red light, no?

Mine was cracked and fell apart when I took it off. Moisture can get on the electronics so it could fail intermittently. Even if it's not the problem it will be one eventually. Best to change it before it needs an expensive tow.

It sure could cause that. Like mentioned, drop the spare, unbolt the FPDM and have a look. You will wonder how it ran at all

Well I got it replaced last night. The old one looks like I got it from the Titanic.

I hadn't had any problems since that one time.

My fuel pump module sensor was literally going out.My truck wouldn't start or ran rough. The aluminum coating on the half side was completely half corroded off making the mother board ever so visible.

Know what I did? I soaked it in isopropyl alcohol for 20 mins, cleaned what part of the mother board was showing with a tooth brush and soaked/shook it again.I let it air dry (isopropyl alcohol is 99% alcohol). It wasn't even half dried and i wrapped it in 3 mini ziplock baggies (protection from future grim and dirt against the visible mother board) zip tied it back unto the harness and bam, started like new! It's been nearly oh 9 months and no problems since then. TRUE STORY.

Bottle of isopropyl $2.....a toothbrush $1....mini ziplock baggies $2....zip ties $2......refusing to buy a new fuel pump module sensor knowing i could fix mine myself and save a bunch of money: Priceless.
