Sounds like the trans to me - #9 torrington bearing failure? This video sounds pretty similar and that's what it ended up being for him:

From what I understand it requires taking the trans out and getting to one of the bearings at the rear of the case, so in other words probably pretty expensive

If you want to take a crack at doing it yourself, take a look at this thread for info about rebuilding the trans, since you're going to be taking everything out anyway you might as well do preventative maintenance with an overhaul kit and a Sonnax Sure Cure kit.

PVC valve. Mine sounded like a WWII Zero. The check ball inside vibrates and causes it to sound like a whining rotational part, but in fact it is just the stupid thing buzzing. Mine was so loud you could here it half a block away.

Replaced with $2.50 cent Fram and no more buzzing.

Of course yours could be something else but when all else has been checked, the often overlooked PVC valve will be the culprit.

I thought the 5.4 3v didn't have a PCV?

If it is the bearing, if I wait to change it out to save money for it. Is it gonna ruin my tramission? What should I expect, I have to save money.
