Default electric fan question

I have seen all the write ups and installs of these fans in our trucks and every time i do i wonder about the electric fan clutch found on the 08 models.

My question is can you just tap into that wire and have it trip a relay to turn on the electric fans?

It seems so much simpler. Then the fan is directly controlled by the computer again and no user input it necessary and tapping the ac clutch wire isnt needed either.

Why hasnt this been tried and if it has why doesnt it work?

Thanks.

Im not 100% sure but I believe that the electric fan clutch defaults to the run position and the signal wire is used to deactivate it however with the proper relay that has a normaly closed and power open contact I dont see why it wouldnt work. A standard ISO relay has both contacts so it could be used. I have never worked on the ford system but thats the way they work on larger industrial apps.

It seems that would be the most obvious place to power "the new fan". And yet I've never read of anybody working it that way...

It would simplify the whole process.

I wondered about this as well and tried it. It didn't work. I didn't press forward to figure out why though since I already had a fan controller. Even the ac signal wire at this plug didn't work to trigger the relay or my current fan controller.

Crap and you seem to know what you are talking about. Guess its worth poking at but now i am a little disappointed.

I just want to keep it as stock and reliable as possible. And get the best mpgs and towing power.

I have a 4.6 its an 08 so it has some more power but it still needs a little help.
