Default EGR Valve Issues

Hello all! I have a 2007 F150 4.6 L and am having issues with my EGR valve. My check engine light came on and I have the P0401 code. I have removed the EGR valve and cleaned the ports along with the port going into the intake manifold. The check engine light is still on and I am wondering if it could be the DBFE sensor or carbon build-up inside the throttle body. Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It's difficult for an EGR valve to go bad. Typically on a 4.6L when that code comes up it's the EGR sensor that fails and when it fails it comes up reporting a bad EGR. I've had two Ford vehicles with the P0401 code and the EGR sensor was bad each time, not the valve.

Good luck

By sensor do you mean the DBFE sensor?

Yes i think that's what it's called, it's been a while since i've had to replace one but it's really a DPFE. It messes up and sends bad data to the computer and a code comes up with a bad valve when really the sensor reports false info and needs to be replaced. The sensor is easy and cheaper to replace than the EGR valve.
