Default Edge Evolution questions 5.4L

I just installed my new Edge Evo programmer this weekend. Very easy install and it looks good! Just had a few questions for those that have the same programmer. I've got 18" rims with 33" tires. Edge says to make the tire size adjustment gradual to avoid possible tranny damage. How gradual should it be? Also, what are the best settings for a good shift firmness? And how do you know when there are new updates for your programmer?

Q1: Edge says to make the tire size adjustment gradual to avoid possible tranny damage. How gradual should it be?
A: The tire size wont affect anything other than the "Vehicle Speed" on the edge. It won't harm the transmission.

Q2: what are the best settings for a good shift firmness?
A: I personally have mine set at +12 for 1-2 and 2-3, I use +9 for 3-4. You can really use any setting you want, whatever is most comfortable to you. Just play around and figure out what suits you best.

Q3: how do you know when there are new updates for your programmer?
A: Just check the web site periodically. They don't update very much.

never heard anything about gradually moving the tire size up
my shift firmness is 5 across the board. anything more seemed a little to strong for my taste.
personally I just downloaded the software and plugged it in when I had some spare time because mine was used.
if yours is used i would suggest plugging it in to your computer and seeing if it needs one

has your battery died or has the programmer been unplugged recently?
that's a typical thing to happen when you do that
otherwise if you unplug and update it the same thing will sometimes happen

Yeah, it turned out to be just a weak battery so I replaced it. Been fine ever sense. Is it possible to set the shift firmness too high? I noticed it goes up to 25 or something. Right now I have mine set on 12, 11, and 10.

there's some who have set it to 15 or 20 but I think the guy at 20 had tranny problems recently.

You're in the range of what most guys run for firmness. I don't remember what mine is but there in the 9-12 range.

yeah i run my shift firmness around 10-12, i had it higher but it shifted way too hard. a nice firm shift is good for the trans but an overly hard shift is not.
