Can pick up an edge evo programmer with the pod and everything included for $190. Is it really worth it/ noticeable gains in power and mpgs?

Definitely a great deal. Get it powered up and verify that there is a 0 in the upper corner, that will show that it is unlocked. If any other number there, then the PO still has it linked up to another truck and they either need to return it to stock (unlock it) or I believe that Edge can unlock it for about a 100 dollars. I set mine to the Level 2 Tow setting and tweaked a few of the shift points and love this thing. I also did the free convert from Edge to Gryphon and got even more out of it. I will not go back to stock and do intend on ordering a custom tune from PhP real soon.

Good thing the OP did not post the link to that Edge for that price; no doubt someone else would have jumped on it for sure!
