Default ECM replacement

2006 F150 4.2 liter engine

I am not a mechanic but was very much DIY when I was younger. That means I understand even if I can't do it myself.

About this truck used and have driven the crap out of it. Rcently it started throwing a code showing there was a problem with the mass flow sensor. And you can crank it and let it go forward but as soon as you hit the accelerator it throws into limp mode.

Have replaced wiring between ECM and sensor, checked fuses, replaced accelerator pedal. Based on correct voltage coming and going between ecm and sensor, my mechanic (shadetree) is convinced it is the ECM .

How and where do I go to send it in to be repaired? I am in rural Mississippi.

Thanks

Code test and pinpoint tests are your friend
The TP's must jive from the plate to the pedal

any DTC's ? limp mode is commonly caused by the throttle body.

DTCs are "Diagnostic Trouble Codes".

Most inexpensive code readers only read "P" codes but these are the ones that cause drivability concerns like yours. Autozone and others read these "P" codes for free.
  • P Codes - P stands for powertrain, meaning the issue is related to engine functions, transmission, or drivetrain.
  • C Codes– C codes cover chassis functions such as steering, suspension, and brakes.
  • B Codes – Vehicle body codes refer to safety and comfort features inside the driver’s cabin.
  • U Codes – U codes cover all the network and vehicle integration functions that the OBD (On Board Diagnostics) manages.
