Driver Side Front Howling Noise - Please Help
Please Help!
I have a 2006 Ford F150 Screw Cab 4x4 Flex Fuel V8 about 55,000 miles. I have a moderate to loud howling noise (varying with speed) coming from the drivers side front tire area. I have had both the right and left front bearings replaced already under warranty about 20,000 miles ago. When driving straight I can hear it, when turning one direction it will go down, when turning the other it will get louder. According to the stealership it is not the bearings. They claim it is the tire. I did a tire rotation myself and there was no change in sound. I did the bearing test (shaking the wheel) and it is solid. I am running out of ideas. I have searched the this forum and other ford f150 forums too.
Any other ideas?
I am looking to get this resolved fast as I am approaching the end of my extended warranty and do not want to be left high and dry for something that is happening now!
Side Notes
- Recently (within 500 miles) had an alignment done. Did not solve/change noise.
- Noise will also go away with no weight on the truck (go over bumps etc)
- Noise remains when in 4x4 high

Axel boots are in good shape. I took it in Saturday but they only run the "skeleton" crew on the weekends so it will be Monday before they are able to look into it. I will update the thread with what is found.

The problem is fixed. They said it was the passenger side front bearing. I am now on my third bearing on the passenger side. I am a little puzzled at this since all the noise was coming from the driver side.
Also I am a little puzzled due to the fact I had my driver side bearing replaced June of 2010 and my passenger side bearing replaced in July of 2009. Anyone else replacing their bearings this often? I am only at 55,000 miles.

its call resonating sounds it travels threw the front ends components and it sounds like its coming from the other side when its not being a mechanic its frustrating when it happens
