Default downsides to clamping your exhaust

what would the downsides be to clamping an exhaust together made of generic pipes?

Only downside I can think of is it's not as good of a seal as welding has the potential to be.

There is no down side IF you have a pipe expanding tool to make nice tight slip fits. however most anybody with this equip would also have a welder. the advantage of a clamp is you can take it apart if you have to to get to other parts [trans. remove etc] but if you have poorly fitted or missaliend pipes welder is the only way to go.
