Default Door Lock Adjustment

I have a 2004 Lariat SuperCrew and I replaced the drivers side door handle, and actuator. Only one thing does not work right and that is the door lock opening from the inside when using the inside door handle. So the door will unlock with the electric switch and will unlock with the outside door handle, but it will not unlock with the inside handle. Do you think I might have a stretched cable? Looking for suggestions.

Sounds like your door latch is no good
When the cable pulls and the door opens, the door unlocks at the same time
So, if your cable pulls "all the way" and the door will not open from the inside, replace the latch

You need to remove the panel an visually observe things as the inside handle is manipulated. Some of the mechanisms use plastic "keepers" that may have broken or fallen out of place causing the cable/rod to disconnect,

Keep us informed of your progress and the solution to this issue.

As Jimboy said, you'll need to remove the door panel to fix it. The cable connection to the inside handle is probably not connected properly. It's kind of tricky to connect it, and hard to describe. So I found this video that shows this:

Additional information, When I pull the inside handel I can get out of the truck, but the little door lock nub (not sure what its called) does not come all the way up and gets pulled back down. If the door closes at that point it will be locked. If I use the key on the outside it will unlock normally, If I use the key fob it locks and unlocks normally. Thanks for the Video, yes I have watched that before.

There should be an adjustment for that rod, and some rods are slotted to make it not come back down after the initial push up, when the door is opened from the inside
So, that rod going up from the latch to the door lock, might be out of position or bent

So I hope you can all see the video. I have played around with the door lock rod adjustment and that might be the issue, I tried putting it back in the same spot and then marked the current spot with a sharpie and tried moving it up and down, but no luck so far. When testing it in situ it seems to work fine, then when all assembled it will start doing the same thing again. In the video you can see the green plastic piece and that is the clip for the rod adjustment.

It's my understanding that you fixed the original problem, the door not unlocking from the inside, and are now trying to fix the door lock nub not coming all the way up and getting pulled back down. Also that it works right with the door inside cover off, but not after it's reinstalled.

Two thoughts:
  • When I remove the driver's door panel on my 2004 Lariat I unscrew the plastic "door lock nub", and tie a string at the top of the rod. Then while reinstalling the cover, I thread the string through the nub's hole. After the cover is reinstalled I pull the rod up with the string and screw the nub back on.
  • You could remove the passenger door's cover and compare it's lock setup to the driver's door.
Hope this helps.
