dont know what to do ??????
i know there is a great thread on this i have read all 86 pages. I am thinking my timming chain jumped i heard a loud noise started running rough stalled and turned off. i started it it back up and its running ok. before all this in the morning i would start it and hear chain draging on timming cover. i bought a timming set duralast brand, (auto zone) only available local parts. no mechanic in town wants to do this job. i have printed up the sticky on this procedure by svars and think i can do my self. im going to open and inspect phasers hoping they are not bad so i can leave in place as i can not afford to replace now. mechanics are also saying to do new oil pump is this some thing i should do aswell really dont know what to do my truck is my work truck and i need it running to make that all mighty dollar
so really lookin for advice on getting this done cheap by my self a list of specific tools need to do this repair and any info on that dura last set i paid 220 and have return slip if i should do so any info is helpfull any contacts i can make here are even better thanks for the help forum!!!!!!
Just do what you need to do. Preventative maintenance is great if you AREN'T on a tight budget, but replacing working parts when you are is a waste. You can replace them down the road if you get extra cash.
The timing is hard to get right so people don't want to do it. I did both a 5.4 and a 4.6 in the last 2 weeks and I found it to be as easy as anything else as long as you take your time.
