Does a 2003 F150 have struts or just shocks?

I did a quick look on Amazon, found a set of 4 shocks (2 front and 2 rear) for about $80...none of them have the coil spring, so I'm guessing the truck doesn't have them, or can just use the old...I'm assuming the part store wants the $97 for just a pair?

I'd grab them cheapies, bring them to your mechanic and have them put them on...especially with the mileage you have on it, and not sure about keeping it more than a year..

Good Luck!

No, the parts store quote of $97 was for all four shocks.

Amazon has KYB shocks for $20 each with free shipping. KYB makes good product for cars, not so sure about truck quality. I'm considering them myself.

The shocks can be replaced without even lifting the truck, I believe. Crawl under, remove bolts/nuts, open hood, do same. The springs are completely separate. You could remove the shocks and drive without them. The springs support, the shocks control rate of movement.

Not bad, Gabriel is one of the old names in shocks, but a lot of companies have lowered their costs and use the name to make sales. (Like Ford in some cases). The down side of cheap shocks is that they can blow up or just not last very long.

Guess we'll take that risk. I'm cheap and proud of it! LOL Of course when you live paycheck to paycheck as we do, you can't afford not to save every way you can.

Oh we wouldn't attempt to install them ourselves. While it may be 'easy' to you and others who routinely work on vehicles, my husband doesn't have that talent, so other than changing the oil or changing a tire or checking fluid levels or replacing a light bulb, he's pretty helpless and needs a professional to do the work. So, if we can get the parts and labor for $200, as I've been quoted, we'll do that instead of trying to put them on ourselves.

Thanks for all your answers. Its time for me to leave work and head to choir practice!

If he can change a tire, he can change a shock and save 100 bucks! Good luck!
