Do I Need a Torque Wrench for this?

Default Do I Need a Torque Wrench for this?

Well my buddy that works at a local auto parts store is hooking me up with a daystar leveling kit for $40. I'm hoping to install it friday. I have an impact wrench so I can get the bolts plenty tight enough. So did you guys torque every things back to specs? I realy don't wanta go buy a torque wrench because they are not cheap! If necesary I can borrow 1 from a buddy or something. So what do you guys think do I need one or not? Thanks

If you work on vehicles you should have a good torque wrench no matter what. Plan to invest in one.

I asked the same question and agree with everyones answers. Just tighten as much as possible, then recheck after 500 miles. You wont find a torque wrench cheap that can torque to the recommended ft/lb into the 300's for that lower control arm bolt. Secondly, IF you had one, good luck having it fit in those tight spaces seeing it is usually a 3/4" drive. I have a 1/2" drive torque wrench putting out 250 ft/lb and it wouldn't fit. I checked mine after about 700 miles and NONE even budged. If you lose sleep at night over it, find a buddy at a shop that might own one? Just my .02 cents.

Thanks for the replies guys. And I know I need one crashtech but I'm still in highschool and its all I can do to make enough to afford gas. My dad has a ton of tools but for some reason we don't have a torque wrench. But I have managed to make all the repairs (except rebuilding the tranny) so far my self with out one. But I guess Ill just get them as tight as I can and then come back and check them in a few hundred miles. Thanks

I vote buy a torque wrench, especially on suspension components.

i did not use a torque wrench on mine... used an impact... when i had my front end alligned i had them check everything... and they did that for free

I could pay to have it installed a lot cheaper than I could buy a torque wrench. Ill do like bobkyle said and have them check it when I have it aligned.

just on those basic suspension blots, tighten them up nice and good with an air impact and maybe check them a couple hundred miles later. Of course you need to torque your wheel lugs to 140 ft/lbs tho you cant just tighten them.

Because once you tighten much further than that the threads on both the lugs and the lug nuts will start to wear and strip.
