DIY Harley Davidson TailLights
So...after about 18 hrs and a PITA later...I finally finished smoking out my taillights. I did the DIY HD Taillight and it came out perfect!!!
Steps:
1. Remove Tailights
2. Bake lights in the oven 250* for 10 minutes
3. Pry off lens being very careful not to crack the lens
4. Sand Chromed areas EXCLUDING the bulb housings
5. Mask off chrome bulb housings
6. Apply 4-6 coats of SATIN black spray paint allowing 30 mins in between
7. Reseal lenses with black silicone sealant. Allow 12-24 hrs to dry.
Before: (Kinda cruddy picture, but you can tell the difference)
After:
Let me know what you think!

That looks very very good ! nice work ! Which areas exactly did you paint? Just the portion of the chrome reverse lamp and a portion of the top brake light lamp?

Actually you mask those two areas.... You use masking tape and mask the areas where the bulbs go in, but spray paint the rest of the chromed areas. It is basically like the L shaped area of the taillight. If you catch my drift.

Here is an example:
The Green Highlighted Areas is what i masked....All the rest of the chrome I spray painted black..... Really the only hard part to this mod was baking the headlights....It wasnt hot enough in my oven with the first one I did...So unfortunately I cracked my headlight like in 4 places...Hardly noticeable, but still sucks.

Your right....There isn't MUCH of a difference....You have to be here in person to really see it....But its just a few shades darker than stock...Thats what the beauty of it is...It looks killer up close..especially on a red truck!!! haha

12 Second Truck
I saw this post for the first time Friday and Saturday I got right on it. I'm happy with the results. On a green truck those stock lights were just two red. Now they look good. Its still not the same as having a light with a smoked lense but it will do for now. Thanks for the write up. Outstanding job.
