Angry Difficult diagnosis??

2004 ford f150 5.4L 3valve supercab. 9.75 axle 3.73 gears.
The problem. Axle started leaking from the axle seals however I maintained fluid levels till service time next week. Noticed the leak 2 weeks ago as the brakes were smoking from the burned lube. Though maintaining the lube level till the funds are available to service the truck it has started to growl with rpm. Not the typicl whine but growl like a hub bearing and characteristics are similar such as when turning the growl leaves. No its not the hubs. Just had them replaced and the 4x4 works great. Ring and pinion seems to have the acceptable amount of lash/slack when rotating the shaft. The growl is unbearable as it resinates through the chassis. Would this be axle bearings? carrier bearings? or ring and pinion set? Again when I turn right its as if there is absolutely nothing wrong with the truck and I dont have ring and pinion clunk. ???????? WTF PLEASE HELP. Cant imagine a single axle bearing making this much noise.
