did you replace or reseal your 3rd brake light?
After reading a bunch of posts about new and older trucks leaking at the 3rd brake light, I think that I will do some preventative maintenance before problems occur. So I am asking---Have you used RTV (or some kind of silicone sealant) or did you replace with an aftermarket light. If you replaced it, which brand and how well do you like it? I see there are multiple brands and some are plug and play while others I guess they need to be spliced in????
Thanks.
Thanks.

I didn't have a leak or anything but when i replaced the bulbs in my 3rd brake light i used siicone around the exterior about 3/4 of an inch in on the light and pressed it in so i wouldnt have a problem later on.

My new 3rd brake light was straight plug and play. I have been thinking about getting some silicone to seal it but wasn't sure if it was necessary or not but just the fact that i've thought about it means I probably should just do it lol.

Here's the 3rd brake light I bought, it reuses the two lights on the right/left and plugs in to power the LED's (center). Was plug and play and required no splicing.

If you want to change the style of light then go ahead and buy a new one but I would add some silicon to the ones off ebay just as a precautionary (not saying they have problems, just my personal preference to do). If you are planning of keeping the OEM style then it easier to just reseal the stock one. I have the third break light leak and after I sealed it I have had zero problems and its gone trhough some pretty bad rain storms.
