It's easy. Turn the key to the "run" position without starting it. Slowly depress the gas pedal to the floor and then take your foot off and let it come all the way up. Then turn the key to "off". Repeat the whole process a couple times and your done! This just recalibrates the throttle body.

"throttle resonse fixes 5.4" is what you're looking for do a search.
This procedure works on any/most fuel injected engine.
It does not hurt your gas mileage, you are the reason your gas mileage drops(your foot).
My 08 f150 Limited 5.4 was getting 14.7 mpg until I tryed this procedure, now I'm getting 16.4 mpg. I guess it's because I don't feel the need to floor it like you younger guys and I can't afford buying tires and gas like y'all can.

I had the same problem on my 08 Limited 5.4 when I bought it 2 months ago. Here's what I did to fix the problem. Turn the key to the on position but DON'T start the engine. Now press the gas peddle to the floor SLOWLY and let it come up/back as fast as you can, turn key to the off position. Now do this two more times. Now start the engine and go for a test drive then report back here with your findings!
This procedure works on my motorcycle so I tried it on my truck and it worked there too!
I also disconnected my battery but that was a couple of days later and wasn't done to correct the throttle problem but it drives like it's suppose to now.
Just tried this on my '07 scab 5.4 and it worked great. There's a definite difference.

The other step you can do is loosen the three 10mm bolts on the gas peddal, (on the mechanism itself not the ones on the floor)pull it out hard, then re tighten, mine had about a half inch of play. I did the first step and saw no difference untill I did this. Like Diamondbird said, you get quicker response and need to push the peddal less to get the same takeoff as before doing this trick.

Can someone post a picture referring to the three bolts to loosen on the pedal assembly? I tried to loosen the 2 on the module but couldn't get it to budge. Thanks!

They are up above the gas pedal you really cannot miss them.
