Default Diagnosing which COP has gone bad

Is there a way to trace a misfire through the edge evo? I'm having a slight skipping issue between 50-60 mph @ cruising speed...I know it's related to COP's or plugs. If it's just a COP, I want to replace whichever one is bad and see how everything else goes. I plan on swapping out plugs in the spring, but that's a couple months away.

I'm not showing any CEL but the skipping is driving me crazy. What's the best way to figure out which COP is bad?

Just change your damn plugs haha. More often than not, its plugs and not the COPs.

You need to misfire X amount of times per second to get a code. So, find a hill, get to 50 MPH, and give it light throttle until it bucks and keep it running like crap for as long as you can and hope you get a code.

Or, just change your plugs!

^^^This^^^. Change plugs, if it still misfires, change ALL COP's. Don't half **** it with changing just one.

Clean MAF, clean throttle body, and change fuel filter.

I thought a majority of the skipping issues were attributed to bad COP's or plugs? This probably wouldn't hurt to do anyway though.

I would agree. Unless you have a pocket full of coin burning a hole in your pocket, I agree with your logic in trying to identify the fault, and correcting it.

The "load" test is a good one. Try to get the skip or miss to register a code under test, such as climbing a hill under load as suggested by corey_lax.

Yes, the cost of doing everything right now would be a lot, and I more than likely will be doing everything at one time, so until it warms up...I'm hoping it might just be a bad COP, if not I'll have to diagnose further, then replace everything if entirely necessary.

Well how many miles do you have on the plugs? If it is over 55k I would change the plugs and the COP boots first

Best way I do it on my 5.4 2v motor is get going 70, and full throttle to 95-100. Do that about 3-4 times, or until a code is thrown. In your programmer can you not lookup pending codes?

The way I described will get your rpm's up there making them fire more and for a code to be thrown it has to misfire so many times a minute.
