Dazzed and Confused
Hey Guys, I need all the help I can get on this one. I recently purchased a 05 F150. 5.4,King Ranch, Roush Supercharged. The works. That Why I bought it. Ok so here is my problem. I noticed about a week ago it seems to hesitate a little. Slightly. Then today I am driving down the interstate and step on it to get around a 18whlr before I get into construction, and wham it really starts hesitating and the check engine light is flashing. I know this can't be good so I nursed it home and pluged my SCT Flash tuner to it and got no codes. So I returned it to stock took it up the road. No flashing engine light but still a little hesitation. Brought it home and retuned it. Up the road and then hesitation and engine fail safe kicks in. I'm at a loss. This truck is begining to be more headaches than it's worth. It only has 61000 miles on it. Need everyones help....
Thanks.
Thanks.
Flashing CEL means a misfire has occurred. sounds like it's time for a plug change. You have to change plugs more often on FI motors. Hopefully it's just plugs and not your COPs already going out.
Also when you say you put it back to "Stock" tune with your SCT what is the stock tune? Like stock from the factory or the Roush stock tune? You definitely don't want to run the stock tune on your truck because you will damage your motor with the boost you are running.

What do you mean you returned it to stock? And what did you do to re-tune it?
Engine failsafe mode usually points to a throttle body issue - the truck's computer takes it very seriously when it has trouble controlling the amount of air coming into the engine, and for good reason. Check to make sure the throttle body is not stuck in any way and isn't really dirty. They can get dirty and effect the way they open/close, so they should be cleaned from time to time as a matter of course.
It's possible the actuator itself has gone bad and/or the throttle position sensor is bad/malfunctioning.
Depending on which one of these is your problem, it could be cheap to fix, or more expensive if you have to replace the throttle body. Don't get discouraged though, it sounds like you have an awesome truck and once this is fixed you will be back to enjoying it!
