I do not have first hand experience - YET -. But have likewise been shopping. There is a site (Russian site I think) www.AliExpress.com that has about 10 pages of them.
Some of their prices will knock your socks off !!! Like a couple' a packs of cigarettes! From $14.95 all the way up to over $100.00.

I've been researching the site, and think I may try ordering something from it (against my wife's insistence!). (She says I might get accused of corroboration with the Russians).

Tell your wife not to worry. Aliexpress is not Russian, it's Chinese.

Been looking at Vantrue dashcams for a while now and they seem to be very good quality but expensive. This one is currently on a rather significant sale however.

Currently I have a Papago S30 in my truck and a Papago Go safe 272 in my wife car.
I've had a dash cam in my truck the last 5 years.

You saw the videos from my crash last month. Those were taken with simple Mini 0805s.

The problem is cheap cameras often have issues that are hard to overcome in cheap chipsets such as a light balancing (going from full sun to partial shade, etc), motion blur in individual frames (so you don't get an actual shot of a moving license plate), overstated resolutions (so the shot you get is blocky and terrible), etc. There's loads of info out there.

I will say this, the Ambarella A7LA50 is a decent chipset and it's not super expensive. Before I ran my Mini 0805s in tandem, I ran a Mini 0801 in my Impala for years. It worked well and had good resolution, it was based on the Ambarella A2S60 chipset.

The maker of the camera doesn't always matter so long as the chipset is authentic.

https://smile.amazon.com/Adashine-Da.../dp/B01ELBN0W8 -- looks like it might be okay.

I think every Russian driver has one though so you would think they make the dang things. I mean they pull guns on each other in traffic several times a day like its nothing. Don't worry though cause Hillary hit the reset button with them a few yrs back, who cares if they got the translation wrong and said something like go screw your dog.

Youtube videos I've seen - EVERY RUSSIAN needs one before venturing out on the street. Them bastards are crazy when they get behind the wheel. Pass on the wrong side, pass a lane of stopped traffic just flying, speed on snow covered/icy roads, run red lights - turn left in front of oncoming traffic - everything, all probably while sipping on some good Russian Vodka!

But thanks to @J929626 I'm telling my wife now that AliExpress is a Chinese site. Ain't made in Russia and has NOTHING to do with the Russians - OR any of the Trump cabinet!

Cheers!
