Damaged spark plug tip
Hi All
This is my first post and need some help.
I have a 2004 F150 5.4 FX4 and just got some nes that when they installed my plugs there was a clunking noise that happened.
So they pulled out the plugs again and notice this happened to 1 cylinder.
Can you tell me how this could happen as I assume it hit the Piston on its way up.

What is the part number on that plug? When I changed the plugs in my wifes truck, it had 4 different brand plugs varying from the originals to a Champion. I noticed that a couple of the recently changed plugs had a longer body to them. I think they were Autolite HT15's. Verify that you have the correct plugs for the 5.4 3v. I use the HT 1's in both of our trucks.

Now look like I am stuck buying a new motor for this truck?
Can anyone tell me if there is a way the connecting rod can be changed from the oil pan?
What is my best soluton?
Thanks
And the correct plugs are which number?.......... Why would this issue result in a replacement engine and how in the world could a soft plug ground bend a connecting rod? No, you can't change a connecting rod with the pan off. You would have to drop the crank, after separating the trans off the block let alone the crossmember and front differential are clearing obstructing that operation.

You're asking the right question. How can a plug change break a connecting rod? If it was done right, it can't. Something else is going on. Did they start the engine without oil? Did they break a plug, lose it in the cylinder, then put in a fresh plug and start the engine? Hmmmm....
