Default Which custom tunes do you prefer. 5 Star or MPT

Well guys I bought a "new to me" 2005 F150 last week and I am wanting to put a programmer on it. On my last truck that I wrecked in December, I had an Edge EVO but on this truck I have decided that I am going to go with an SCT X4 7015. But here is the dilema, I can't decide whether I want to get custom tunes from 5 star tuning or MPT. I am looking for input from any of you guys on which you think is best. Thanks

I had 5star and wasn't happy at all. My edge seemed better. I went with MPT shortly after and love it!

I have to be honest, I bought the SCT X4 with 5 custom tunes from 5* through Stage 3 Motorsports. Not that impressed. The shift strategy is terrible in my opinion. In normal driving, it shifts almost immediately from first into second gear. Even giving it some gas it might go to 2200 rpm's and then shift. Second to third is OK. Third to fourth isn't great. It holds third for a long time. Going 40mph it will only shift to fourth if I let off the gas to make it shift. Pretty strange. Then the rev limiter; they set it at 6250 rpm's which is fine with me. I run it through the gears, first shifts about 6250. Second goes to 6500 rpm's. Now how is that? It's a limiter right? How does it go above the set point. I call 5* and they just tell me to keep driving it until I get 500 miles on it, it SHOULD get better. I don't see how the rev limiter is going to get better. If the rev limiter isn't working correctly, what else isn't working right? Not really comfortable with a "it should get better" response with my $50,000+ truck. Not too impressed with their customer service either (again at Stage 3) as I never got to talk to a tuner guy, just the guy that answers the phone. Never got to really express my displeasure as both times I called I told the guy that answered the phone my issues and he said one of the tuners would call back. The only person that called back was him and he left a message saying it should get better.

I might have to try MPT as I am not really happy. I wish I would have gotten the product and service everyone is so happy about. Oh well, we will see how the MPT tunes are.

By the way, this was a 93 tow/performance on a '14 screw 4x4, 5.0 with 3:55 gears. I also tried the 91 t/p which was about the same. The 87 t/p was better.

Just my experience.

You need to play with the torque converter lock settings.

It's not the torque converter. It doesn't even lock up until forth gear.

No. He paid fer custom calibration - the tuners should be doing that. It's what you pay for in the first place. Messing with a custom calibration defeats the purpose of same. ( Perhaps getting in contact direct with 5* instead of a Stage 3 middleman would help?.This is not normal for them ).

Moneypit - call or email or PM MPT - you will be communicating with a calibrator. Right from the get-go.

I've never experienced such responsive and expert CS. From anyone.

good luck

Thanks, I am going to call 5* directly Monday. They are closed until then. Probably should have done that first but I purchased from Stage 3 so thought I should start with them. We'll see.
