Default Crank - No Start Emergency!!

Hey guys,

this is my first post here. I have an 06 f150 that I’ve been having on and off troubles with for a while. The latest of them being my truck is stalling a lot at lights (I’m assuming it’s the throttle body) and more recently sometimes the oil gauge will drop to zero and then go back up to normal after a few seconds. Last night, I was getting on the highway, it wouldn’t go faster than 35, the oil light dropped to zero and it died. Engine still cranks. This morning, it fired up for about 3 seconds and the died. Engine still cranks. I check the fuel shutoff switch and that didn’t fix it. Open to suggestions!!

thanks

Welcome to the forum. Scan for trouble codes. What mileage? What kind of maintenance interval have you been following?

It has 200k, and I’m regular with the maintenance. Admittedly it may have gone a few miles over this most recent round. I did notice that the throttle body is thickly coated in oil so I had a feeling the pcv valve is stuck open.

Give it a good cleaning then. If the PVC doesn't rattle when you shake it, you can clean it too but they are cheap enough, I'd throw a new one in. I'd check the health of the IAC as well. When was the last plug change?

A few things to check quick
Grounds under the kick panels (both kick panels)
Fuel pressure check
Visual check of the fuel pump driver module
Code test
Check the fuel trim PIDS (check both short and long term fuel trims)
Watch the O2 sensors switch, if warm enough and it will run for long enough
While you have the scan tool hooked up checking fuel trim PIDs, you check a bunch more like VREF and system voltage TP, ACT and ECT pids
Verify a bunch of those PIDS against a reference table for your particular truck
