Unhappy Could use some help

My beloved truck fell apart today as my husband was driving to work. So very thankful he was not killed! Going more than 50 mph the driveshaft twisted and broke the universal joint apart, cracked the tranny case, cut through the gas lines and tranny fluid lines. I stopped hearing what the mechanic said after $5,000 for repairs. The ABS light had been on a week or two but other than that nothing but minor noises coming from under the hood.

It's a 2006 F150 Lariat 4x4 5.4L V8 that I love. All leather interior, moon roof, crew cab, heated seats, etc. We bought it used in 2008 and it's been a great vehicle but has more than 165,000 miles on it. Is it worth spending the money on the repairs? Both interior and exterior are perfect. It's been maintained. I had the spark plugs changed out at 100,000 miles. Ideas? Opinions? Thoughts? Thanks!

Either way sounds like you need to repair it whether you keep it or give up on it otherwise you're gonna get hit hard on the price. The repair estimate sounds a bit steep to me. You should be able to pick up a tranny and drive shaft from a salvage yard for under $1,500. That leaves you with brake lines and tranny lines to replace. Sounds like maybe a $3,000 repair tops unless there is more damage then you stated in you post. Shop around for another estimate.

If it is paid for 5G is cheaper than a new truck payment

yep I would look around that estimate sounds pretty high to me as well . Tranny and fuel lines are simple things to replace , the only major job would be the tranny itself . I would call around , and as already stated it would be alot cheaper than another truck payment
