Call shops, totally depends on them and if any bearings need to be done, 8.8 or 9.75 rear, etc.

I've seen prices from $1000-2500 for labor, for just parts for minor rebuilds+gears+new rear diff for $1600-ish shipped to your door.

I am probably going to buy the tools and do it myself. I've honestly had my fill with incompetent shops that lie, over-charge, or can't do it right.

The 4wp near me charges a flat rate of $500 per axle, plus parts, etc.

Wish I could get that kind of deal. I just bought a TrueTrac for the rear diff, plus a full Timken bearing and seal kit, wheel bearings, and a Yukon crush washer elimination kit. Total parts cost was north of $900. Most shops in my area won't do this work since it's not Ford parts or because I'm not buying the parts through them. The only shop I found locally that has a good reputation is charging me $750 labor.
