Default COPs question: should you replace replace them before they go bad

I have an 04 5.4 with 70k miles. I pull horses on weekends and cannot afford to get stranded on the freeway.

Since many people have COPs problems, should I replace them before they fail? How long do COPs last (I know it varies but do some last 200k?)

Thanks

I had one fail at 49k and another at 59k. I'm currently at 125k with no more cop problems. The two that have me problems never completely failed and I don't believe they would have left me stranded. They actually started giving me symptoms of problems about a month in advance before I was able to track down which ones they were.
