Default Coolant Flush

Ford recommends changing the gold coolant @ 100k miles. Personally, I feel that is far too long to leave the coolant in there. Soon my truck will be 6 years old and have about 60k miles on it, I plan on having the system flushed at 60k miles. I'm curious to see when y'all had your coolant changed/flushed and what you paid to have it done? I'm going to have my truck serviced at the dealership, I know it costs more, but I have the warranty forever on my truck and it requires all the maintenance to be performed at specified locations.

Doesn't the manual state 5yrs or 100,000 miles whichever comes first? So you're already behind.

My 05 has 75k miles and it probably hasn't been done before.. Ford dealership quoted me $150 for coolant flush and $250 for trans flush. I'm gonna go ahead and get the coolant flush in the spring, but I have heard bad things about trans flushes so I'm just gonna drop the pan and change the fluid and filter myself. Coolant is a messy job, it was with my Jeep anyway so ill pay to have that done, just like the spark plugs lol

The coolant isn't bad. Just get some tubing and it's a piece of cake. IMO it does take a long time. There are a couple of drain plugs aside from the petcock. When I drained mine I didn't bother with the drain plugs on the engine. I ended up flushing out 2.5 gallons - only about half of what the capacity is.

If I were to do it again I'd pull the thermostat and run some prestone flush through there. Then I'd flush with as much water as I could until it ran clear. Then start pouring in a 50/50 mix until that color comes out the petcock.

I took mine to a dealer to have done. I have 96k on my truck. First time it was changed. Cost me $90. I didn't think that was to bad for a ford dealer. I would do transmission soon yourself. Its easy. And run some BG 44k to clean out the injectors.

My tranny service at my Ford dealer was only $109.00

changing your own tranny fluid is way more messy that coolant.
