Default Considering Super Crew 4x4

Looking for a truck for my daughter this era may fit in my budget. I want to try to keep it under 120,000 on the odometer.
I'm not familiar with this generation is there any year or engine, etc. that I should avoid.

Thanks

The 5.4 has the thing with the cam phaser. I own a 4.6 with 145000 on the clock and it still running like a charm.

In my honest opinion.. i'd go 4.6 or a newer motor. They all are good trucks and they all have there problems. Good luck.
I love my 5.4 and it currently has phaser/vct issues. Waiting until spring to do the timing overhaul.

So in this generation the 4.6 is preferred over the 5.4? In the previous gen. it was the 5.4.
How is the mileage between the 4.6 and the 5.4?

I would take my 5.4 over the 4.6 any day.

Just keep in mind depending on how the vehicle was cared for, you may encounter the phaser/vct issue soon, later or never. Hopefully by 100K, the original plugs have already been replaced.

Those are the major issues experienced on the 5.4 and things to keep an eye out for.

depending on the size of the horse trailer I would say get the 5.4 since the 4.6 might struggle a bit more. The only trade off then would be it gets not so great mileage (not sure what the 4.6 gets) I average 13.5 with mostly interstate driving
