Compression ratio vs pump gas

If you start off on the 87 then switch to a 93 tune you probably won't go back to a 87 tune.

You would be nuts to not get a couple of tunes 1 for 87 and 1 for 93 both Performance and Tow. I highly recommend a custom tune. Don't waste your money on a "off the shelf" tuner from SCT, EDGE, Superchips. Either spend the money on a dyno tune from a reputable tuner in your area, or get a tuner from a custom tuner like 5 Star or someone like them.
It is my opinion that you have spent too much money in great parts to not get the full potential and benefits. I would call 5 Star on Monday and give them all your specs, and see if they have a tune on file to fit your truck.
I really like my tune from 5 Star it is a real noticeable gain even though I only have a CAI, and cat back. I tried a "off the shelf" SCT from Summit and what a pos it was with misfires and no top end power.
Does Comp recommend a new torque converter with the cams?

No, no. You can run either tune. I'm saying after you feel the power difference in the 93 over the 87 you probably won't want to run the 87. The real difference is the 93 tune adds a bunch of timing. More timing more power. You can't add much timing on 87 you will get detonation, and destroy the motor.

Plus a good tuner changes the transmission program also, and what a difference that makes as well.

btw
comp cam 127100 spec:
valve timing : 0
lobe seperarion : 114
intake centerline : 100
duration 050 lift : 214 / 227
valve lift : 0.48 / 0.47
if you note the valve timing above, it says zero which means neither advance or retard timing, right? I was wondering how these cams give power gain.
Is there a chance I can find stock cams spec so that I can compare two cams

5 Star will sell you the tuner and three custom tunes for like $400. I think they have a choice of 3-4 tuners you can buy. Let those guys help you with all that they are the experts.
I'd say the valve timing means everything is installed straight up @ 0. Letting the computer handle all the advance/retard.
And, you haven't mentioned phasers lock outs. So, keeping the Variable Valve Timing? I really don't know which is better. I do know you have to factor in the phasers lock outs in to the custom tune.
Maybe some here has the cam specs. Possibly ask it in the "General Discussion" area.

10-4! I would still check out some custom tuners like 5 Star. I'm not saying 5 star is the best just go with a good one like them.
