I just installed a K&N FIPK intake and I am happy with the sound and I seem to get a little more power when passing people and stuff like that. But I have dropped almost 2 mpg. I didn't expect it to help on the mpg that much but I sure didn't expect it do drop it this bad. Is this normal or is it something I did wrong that it causing this? I don't have a tuner, just the intake and an exhaust right now. It is very frustrating getting 15 mpg on the highway when I'm used to getting around 17 mpg

is it because you want to hear the sound when you pass people? haha. I remember when I had an intake on a previous vehicle I liked almost going WOT for the fact of hearing it roar.

other then that, i'm no help.

Could it be that you're stepping on the gas a little harder than you did before the CAI? That's what would change mpg the most

I have been a little heavier on the gas than usual ha, but who wouldn't? It sounds amazing!! But I did some test on the highway with cruise at 55, 65, and 70. The best I could get was 15.7 mpg

I did unhook the battery while I was installing it. Which took about 90 minutes. Do you think I should unhook it again? I haven't gotten any codes yet

If you did once and didn't get any codes, you shouldn't HAVE to again unless you just want to see if it makes any difference.

You probably won't see any codes. If you had a programmer hooked up to it you would however see that it was likely running lean.

I am getting a tuner soon, prolly some custom tunes as well. Guess I'll just have to deal with the bad mpg for a little bit. This just completely shocked me though, I thought a CAI was supposed to help a little in the mpg column, not hurt it

Normally cai does not improve as it is for hp and torque. They make wai or warm air intake for intentions on better mpg. I don't think this is available for our trucks but have seen them before.
