Question about switching O/D off and tranny double-down shifts
2005 5.4 XLT 4x4: ~107K on 4R75E tranny
So my tranny downshifts twice almost every time I take her out of O/D. Is that a PCM programmed (double) downshift? Do all 5.4s go to 2nd gear for about 1/4 of a second and then up to 3rd when you hit the O/D off button? I'll be going anywhere between 25-65 MPH and if I hit that button the tranny shifts into 2nd for a split 1/8 or 1/4 of a second and then upshift to 3rd. My PCM has been updated as of Oct. 2009. WTF??? I just doesn't feel right.
I was thinking that I need to replace my shift solenoids on the valve body of the tranny. I think I am going to buy the valve body overhaul kit and replace some crap. But it would be nice to hear that other people's trannys do this too.
I was also thinking that when you turn off O/D that the PCM changes the shift points for the tranny to an entirely different scale. Maybe?
Anyone else experience the double down shift, and if so, when??? I have heard of other people talking about the DDshift so it must not be just me. Maybe I am thinking too far into this...
