Code P0605 and no updates. Please help.
Hi all I have an 06 f150 screw 4x4 with the lovly 5.4. About 2 weeks ago my CEL came on, pulled code's, showed P0605.
P0605= PCM is having memory loss.
Last week it came on again but I had to drive it untill yesterday with the CEL on. Pulled code's same thing P0605. Got my mom to take it to the closest dealer for me. They gave me the awsome news that I have the code P0605 and it PCM has "been updated as many times as it can be" and I will need to get a new one and happly informed me that they can get me one for $973.29 + $160 labor.
So what I'm asking is what can I do with out droping a nother grand? Can I get a PCM some where and have them program it?
Please help I'm goin on a trip in a mounth and need my truck.
On a side note do you think this could be the reason for my 13mpg avg?
Thank you for any help you can give me!!

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd share my experience with the P0605 code (PCM Read Only Memory (ROM) Error) on my 06 SCREW 5.4 4X4. It appears it was a grounding issue.
I first got the code last year after I changed the spark plugs. I had removed the PCM and bracket to give me more room to get to the back plug on the passenger side. Code came on almost immediately after putting everything back together and testing. It didn't affect performance so I ignored it and have lived with it for a while. I'm thinking of selling the truck so I'm trying to fix a couple things that would affect the value. Before taking it to the dealer for a Re-flash, I thought I'd try checking/cleaning electrical connections. I had some electrical contact solvent cleaner/conditioner (Deoxit) from working on my odometer LCD screen (also now fixed). I used in on the three PCM wiring plugs, working the plugs on and off a couple of times. This may have helped, but the code came back.
I then read somewhere (not sure), that grounding issues could also cause the code. I unbolted the PCM and bracket and used Deoxit on the bolts and holes in both the bracket and the firewall. I then ran the screws in and out multiple time to clean any oxidation off. I'm not sure if the PCM is grounded through the bracket, but I was worth the five minutes just in case. Finally, I removed the 3 ground wires from the fire wall near the PCM and cleaned the connector. One of these wires goes directly to the battery negative and another goes to the PCM harness. I also used a dremel on the contact spot on the firewall. I then used the Deoxit on the ground screws and the holes, running the screws in and out a few times.
After reassembly, and a test drive of about 5 miles, the CEL has not returned. I'll check back in a few days with an update. Fingers are crossed.
