Code p0016 rought idle
#11
I have a 2006 f150 5.4 3valve. It started running bad. Changed both timing guides, tensioners, tensioner arms, and both phasers. Replaced both vct sylenoids, camshaft position sensor, 8 new spark plugs, and most of the coil packs ( checked all the others). Rechecked timing the times. Still has a rough idle and their codes p0016 & p0012. After 4 mechanics and 8 months without a truck we need help!!!

You should, if you haven't already, do a "adaptive learning parameter reset", or battery reset as it is sometimes referred to. This will allow it to adjust the fuel and idle trims to the new components influence on performance.
Also, clean the MAF and TB. Check input voltage with KOEO if you have a scan tool. Should be zero, or 0.01mA with engine off. Monitor your fuel trims, long and short term.
Hope this helps.

Replaced amazon VCT solenoid with Motorcraft solenoid - fixed
My truck was also misfiring and throwing P0012, P0016, and P0303 DTCs.
I did the following and fixed my issue.
1. Unplug battery terminals wires-> clean terminals -> tied the positive and negative cables together for about 10 minutes (not directly on the battery)
2. Added more oil - needed about a quart - needs an oil change though
3. Replaced the generic Amazon VCT solenoid on the passenger side with a Motorcraft timing solenoid. -> the solenoid I removed was coated in oil/sludge
4. Connected battery cables back to the battery and started the truck up -> no more codes or misfiring
Worked for me. Might work for you.
