Is it possible to swap a instrument cluster with no tachometer for one with a tachometer. The truck is 05 f150 sxt. If you can will it show your mileage?

Hmm. Normally I don't say much when it comes to stuff like this, but SEARCH, or atleast look there is a thread containing this information on the FIRST PAGE of the forum.......

EDIT: oh my, it's on the second page now... My bad...

And read the last post. As I've come accross first hand experience, I've been posting updates.

Since we cannot seem to get folks to use the search, I'll post some information here (yet again):

The XL, STX (two models without a tach) CAN USE a cluster from an XLT or FX4 with out any problems, and gain a tach. However, your current mileage from your old cluster does not transfer to the new cluster. This would have to be "flashed". Some have said on this forum that their local dealer will provide this flash service, but I have called over 20 Ford dealers in my area (Texas as well as Florida), and not one does it locally; they send it off to be done, or don't do it at all.

Your trip odometer will work just fine though. Whatever the mileage is on the cluster you are about to use is what will show, and that will incriment as soon as you install the cluster into your truck. Also note that the small lower right display panel in the cluster has certain ndisplay features that may not operate. For example, the XLT models came with a compass and outside temp feature. If you install an XLT cluster in an STX, these two displays will show "------F" and "--", because the STX does not have these features (requires a temp probe located by the front hood latch area and compass box/wiring located on the windshield behind the rear view mirror). No big deal, everything else works. You could alsways equip your STX with these to additional features from a junkyard, and add them in later.

Lariat and King Ranch models have the "automatic climate control" feature that XL, XLT, and FX4 models do not have. For this reason, if you use a Lariat or King Ranch cluster in anything other than a Lariat or King Ranch, your AC compressor will not work. The automatic climate control function aparently uses some circuit in the cluster that turns on/turns off the AC clutch based on the temperature setting you set. Even though the tiny orange lite on the AC button is lit, the AC compressor does not engauge.

So bottom line for you: your STX can use a cluster from an XLT or FX4 model with no problems, and you'll have your tach. Your mileage will not match though. That would have to be flashed if it is a concern to you. The cheapest I have found is between $139.00 to $150.00. You have to send them the cluster, the mileage reading you want it flashed to, and one place requested a notorized statement that the mileage was a "true" reading.

The one pictured in the EBay link you provided is out of an XLT. It is a perfect swap into your STX; you just won't have matching mileage from your old cluster unless you have it flashed in, and the temp and compass display of this XTX cluster will be blank.
