Default cluster and odometer issues

Bought a 2004 5.4 this summer. A couple of months ago my digital odometer went out but comes on occasionally, My instrument cluster goes crazy but then stops and runs correctly and my radio stops working but I can tell by the backlighting that it is getting power. If I disconnect and reconnect my battery or if I pull the fuses and put them back in then everything goes back to normal until it does it all over again. The trunk runs great with all this happening. First pickup I've ever owned and actually love it. Thanks for helping the newbie

Sounds like a short in the cluster.. 04-08 are famous for. you can do a search on here and find all your options for fixing it.

Sounds more like an intermittent "open" circuit (which is the exact opposite of a "short") at or in the cluster.

Radio operating power comes via the accessory delay relay (ADR) in the cluster. radio backlighting is provided by a completely different circuit so its presence is not indicative of the radio getting all power feeds. If the cluster is not operating the ADR properly, then the loads on the ADR (radio and power windows) also will not operate while in failure mode.

Pull the trim off from around the cluster and wiggle the connectors to see if you can induce the failure. The one on the top left, as seated, seems to be particularly prone to cracked or cold solder joints.
