Default Clunk when shifting from drive->reverse

I'm hearing a slight clunk when shifting from drive to reverse. Assuming bad u-joints. Also hear a slight high pitched whirling noise when going down the road at cruising speed...no vibration...just the noise. Anyone think replacing the ujoints would make the noise go away?

while going down the road, get off the gas and get back on the gas. if the u joints are bad, you will get a click-clack as the slack gets taken up in both directions.

or put in in neutral, get underneath and turn the driveshaft. if you got slack, you need u joints

I do have slight lag when accelerating so I'm 90% sure it's the u-joints. Just curious as to where that high pitched whirling noise is coming from. I just had the whole rear end rebuilt a year ago at the dealership under extended warranty so I'm assuming it's probably a side affect of the bad u-joints?
